Rating Vegan Restaurants in Long Beach, CA (for the humans)
I headed to Long Beach to take my soul cat for his 2nd birthday trip and of course, I had to also find places for his vegan human to eat.
To be very clear - no, I do NOT feed him a vegan diet. Felines are obligate carnivores and should eat a meat based diet. I can respect that, despite my own dietary preferences.
Veggie Grill by Next Level - I had such high hopes for this dinner but was pretty disappointed. I appreciated the massive menu and the fact that there was an option besides an iceberg salad for us vegans to choose from but it was lacking overall is culinary pleasure. Here’s what I ordered:
Far East Thai Chick’n Bowl (add avocado) - Absolutely inedible. I knew after the first bite that it did not taste good but I gave it 3 bites total, to be sure, and I unfortunately had to discarded it.
Caesar Crunch Salad (add chick’n tenders) - I am not going to lie, this was hard to choke down but I forced myself to eat about 1/4 of it because I knew it was good for me. I had to discard the rest of this too unfortunately.
Golden Fries - These were absolutely delicious and yes, truly golden! The perfect crispy and crunchy outer with fluffy inside and the flavor was also absolute perfection! I had a handful of them because I was trying to practice self control and also shared a few with my daughter. These were tasty with or without ketchup! I 10/10 recommend.
Southwest nachos (add guacamole) - These were pretty good. Not the best nachos I have ever had but I definitely enjoyed them and would order them again if I found myself eating here. Overall, I give these a 7 out of 10 at best.
Carrot Cake - Very good cake, I had a few bites and saved the rest for the next day.
Devis Donuts & Sweets - I kind of went crazy with my order here because it’s not every day that I come across a place that sells vegan donuts, much less a massive menu of options. I ordered the following flavors:
Pina Colada
Chocolate Pecan
Blueberry Banana Filled
Lemon Pistachio
Cookies & Cream
Plain Glaze
Strawberry
Lemon Meringue
Cree Brûlée
Boston Creme
The texture of these donuts was absolutely spot and I just couldn’t get enough! They also weren’t too sweet, which I really appreciated. I was able to taste test several of them in one sitting, without feeling sugar sick - like I normally would taste testing vegan donuts. One thing I will note is that the creme filling was a bit tart for my liking but my husband and daughter really liked its sour-ish flavor.
Sunrise Vegan Cafe - I ordered the vegan Cheese Brekky Burrito and when I tell you that it was the best breakfast burrito I have ever had, I am NOT exaggerating. I also added avocado, spinach and hash browns to it and I audibly moaned when I tasted the first bite! 10/10 recommend!!!! In fact, I want to go back to Long Beach JUST to eat this burrito again!
