Ok, it’s official… WE’RE GOING TO COLOMBIA! 🇨🇴🐍🦎🕷️🪲
After all of the voting, messages, research & planning, I can finally officially introduce you to the destination for our 2027 Herpetology & Entomology Expedition…
The Pacific Chocó region of Colombia, specifically Bahía Solano!
If you read my original post where I shared the three destinations I was considering, then you already know why this place caught my attention.
The Pacific Chocó is remote, WILD & one of the most biologically diverse regions on Earth. It’s home to an incredible variety of reptiles, amphibians, insects, arachnids, birds, mammals & plants, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. We’ll be heading into the rainforest in search of all of the incredible little creatures most people walk right past.
Think poison dart frogs, glass frogs, tree frogs, snakes, lizards, geckos, caimans, tarantulas, scorpions, beetles, butterflies, moths, orchid bees, walking sticks, praying mantises, katydids, leaf insects, spiders & who knows what else we’ll stumble across once we’re actually out there searching.
The region is also known for its extraordinary birdlife, including toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, tanagers, motmots, trogons & many other colorful rainforest species. We may also encounter monkeys, sloths, anteaters, bats & other mammals while exploring the surrounding forests. Although these are a HUGE perk, they aren’t the focus.
Bahía Solano sits along Colombia’s Pacific coast, where dense rainforest meets the ocean. The area is surrounded by rivers, waterfalls, beaches, mangroves & untouched jungle, creating an incredible variety of habitats to explore.
And depending on our final dates, there’s even a possibility that humpback whales may be migrating just offshore while we’re there.
The exact dates have NOT been chosen yet, but the expedition will take place sometime between July & September 2027.

I’ve also found some incredibly unique accommodations for our group, and just getting to them is going to be part of the adventure!
Bahía Solano is remote, which is exactly part of what makes this destination so special. These aren’t the kinds of places you simply pull your rental car up to. The accommodations themselves are tucked into this incredible landscape, and like I said, reaching them will be an adventure all on its own.
Depending on the final itinerary, our days may include guided rainforest walks, nighttime herping, insect-focused outings, wildlife observation, beach and coastal exploration, river or waterfall visits, photography opportunities & time to simply take in the incredible surroundings.
This will not be a traditional sightseeing trip. The goal is to slow down, explore carefully & spend time looking for the animals that make this region so special. We’ll be searching under leaves, along trails, around streams, near waterfalls, on the waters eadge & throughout the surrounding habitats, always with the guidance of experienced local naturalists.
I’m currently working directly with the local team on the ground to establish our exact activities, itinerary & pricing.
There will be plenty of searching for “creeping things”.
Early registration access is already being offered to some of my past group-trip guests, so spaces are actually beginning to fill before registration has even opened to everyone else.

I’ve led all types of group trips around the world over the past 15 years, including some focused on animals, and others centered around completely different interests. I’m excited to bring that experience to this expedition, which will be specifically centered around herpetology & entomology.
